I've admired mural wallpapers for ever. And I've been thinking it might be time to get some of this action in my own place.
My favorites are the grisaille murals. Now, picture something like one of these...
...with my 70s brass etageres. I know, crazy. But in a really good way, right?
The office is 20' x 10' so it's got a nice long wall perfect for a mural.
I know ya'll think I'm really fancy, but I cannot afford De Gournay or Zuber wallpaper. So, on one hand I'm considering hand-painting the whole thing myself because I really really really really REALLY want this to happen. And on the other hand I'm like
(still not over it) One thing I know for sure is that if I do paint a grisaille mural, it will be on canvas that I will affix to the wall, because I will never ever part with it. I will be buried in it, mummy style. We could be talking a ridiculous number of hours of my life into this thing. So, I'll try doing one section and if it isn't horribly painful, I'll attempt to do all 30-ish feet (minus window and doors.)
Ok, now that I wrote it, it really does sound a little extreme.

I love the idea....I love painted mural walls. ANd I agree that a canvas is the way to do it....because after all that work you need to keep it forever. I think the effort would be worth it. My friend painted her dining room (see it in this post http://mimosalaneblog.blogspot.com/2012/12/an-architects-home.html) and it looks amazing in person....so powerful. I love the length of your office....that is awesome. and your etageres....insane good!
ReplyDeleteahaha buried with it like a mummy! You make me laugh. Murals are so amazing! Jenny for LGN did a great design using a mural awhile back and I fell in love with the idea: http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.ca/2012/09/making-wall-mural.html.
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted! xo
I love it!! I say go for it!
ReplyDeletedoooo it. If I could draw a straight line I might attempt it too.
ReplyDeleteI actually think this is a fabulous idea! Mural wallpaper can be amazing as long as you do it tastefully or else it can be super tacky! Love all the photos:)
ReplyDeleteI would love to see this. And I will be the first to be totally jealous of your painting abilities.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you pull this off and I'm hiring you...if you take payment in marshmallows and goldfish. It's going to be ridiculous, and look so amazing with your brass. Do it-to it, girl!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you do panels and put a wood frame around the panels. It wouldn't cost so much and it would still give the room the feel you want.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh the patience you must have! I'd get so excited I'd probably eff it up! If you do it, you're not human. But I secretly hope you do so I can see it!
ReplyDeleteOooo, I love! Selfishly I say do it so I can live vicariously through you! Not to mention I think you're one of the very few people who actually have the talent to pull it off well. I'd love to have this in my future home!

ReplyDeleteIf you are capable then you seriously must! I wish I had the talent! And def on a canvas because I would want to keep it forever as well! Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteI thought this post was gonna be on some horrendous decor styles LOL but that clip of the lady still cracks me up. She was actually on a talk show and looked completely different, very nice. they awarded her with the best footage from 2012.
ReplyDeleteI think you would retitle this: What makes people insane...painting a mural! These are beautiful indeed!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely no doubt that you can do this - think baby steps!

bahahaha I will NEVER be over Sweet Brown. I think you should hand paint it. If anyone can do it, you can.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds crazy but I'm sure it could be amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you think you can do it, just do it! Honestly I really would like to see it because those grisaille murals look gorgeous ♥
And oh, you can find beautiful murals on the following website too, maybe it can help you ;)

I loved this post. The wallpaper is off..the...hook! I think you should do it on your own and post it. It would be beautiful and mean so much to you.
ReplyDeletePS--Laughing so hard over your "Ain't nobody got time for that!" Ha ha ha!!!
I loved this post too. And I do enjoy your sense of humor ("Ain't nobody got time for that"), thank you for making me smile!
ReplyDeleteMy dad painted his rural wallpaper, it took some time, yes, but it looks fabulous. You can do it. And I hope you do.
I say go for the painting! I'm sure it will be beautiful. Hope you're having a lovely holiday.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Elizabeth of The Corner Apartment
Hand paint that bitch!
ReplyDeletejust another idea....you can do a smaller design (so it would be more of a toile than a mural)and use spoonflower to make a wallpaper of it. BTW how cool would it be to have your inkblots in wallpaper!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE these mural and handpainted wallpapers, but they are sooo expensive! I found a company in China (the artists were trained through De Gournay and Gracie) that is doing custom Chinoiserie silk panels for our powder room. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chinoiserie-Handpainted-SilkWallpaper-Grand-View-Garden-/250674740186?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&nma=true&si=hQzwMr%2BLBjCvEvukHwtFMoHPh18%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
ReplyDeleteI'll be blogging about the experience at theglampad.blogspot.com!
I forgot to mention that they can reproduce the De Gournay and Zuber patterns!! I will keep you posted once our panels come in to let you know if they are as fabulous as I am hoping! :)
ReplyDeleteooo lala can't wait to see this done :) Happy Painting & Happy New Year!! xo
ReplyDeleteoh my. dooo it.
